InstaPoll: President Obama’s Visit to Cuba

Recently, President Obama announced that he will be planning to visit Cuba next month, a step towards officially re-establishing diplomatic relations with the Cuban government. Such a trip has not been made by a sitting U.S. president since Calvin Coolidge in 1928. Since the President's first announcement in 2014 to thaw relations with Cuba, efforts have begun to facilitate trade and allow direct commercial flights to the island from the U.S. The Administration has also been working with the U.S. telecommunications industry to expand internet access on the island for commercial use. This past summer, Cuba officially reopened its embassy in Washington, D.C., and the United States formally reopened its embassy in Havana. Supporters of the Obama Administration's policy towards Cuba argue that opening up relations with Cuba and eventually lifting the trade embargo (a power reserved to Congress), could improve human-rights on the island nation as well as economically benefit both countries. Opponents of Obama's decision contend that normalizing relations with Cuba – with few concessions in return -- rewards an oppressive regime guilty of multiple human-rights abuses over the last half century. Honoring The Court's Intellectual Giant Weekly Update from Dinesh D'Souza Dear Friends, Last week, the nation was shocked with the news of Justice Scalia's death. As we were still reeling from the news of the conservative warrior's death, the pundits began to speculate immediately about what the vacancy on the Court means for Obama, for the Republican Congress, and for the 2016 election. But before we begin to discuss the political ramifications, it is fitting and proper to honor Scalia for what he was: ‪an intellectual giant on the Court and perhaps the most eloquent Justice going all the way back to the early part of the 20th century. History will see him as a luminous figure in our time. In this conversation with Judge Jeanine Pirro on Fox News, I cover both the legacy of Scalia and the implications of his death on the political process in 2016. Watch now: Of course Obama and Hillary reacted to the news in a most expected manner. Our Divider-in-Chief has decided to skip the funeral for "security footprint" reasons, and Hillary immediately alleged that the GOP's refusal to confirm an Obama replacement for Scalia was due to "systematic racism." As for Obama's tantrum, I for one am glad that the most lawless president in modern American history won't be at Scalia's funeral—it would most certainly sully the occasion. While Obama was busying himself pitting Americans against one another this week, the Pope decided to do some dividing of his own. Speaking specifically about Trump during a trip to Mexico on Thursday, Pope Francis pontificated that "a person who thinks only about building walls…is not Christian." Really? Maybe if Christians had more walls, the Muslims wouldn't have conquered the Middle East and large parts of Europe from the 7th to the 10th centuries! D'Souza Slams Bill Ayers In Debate Weekly Update from Dinesh D'Souza Dear Friends, On Wednesday, I went head-to-head with the radical Bill Ayers on the University of Michigan campus. I wanted to send a note to thank you for all of your support! We had 500 people in the audience on campus, but thanks to your emails, tweets, and Facebook posts, we had over 15,000 viewers live online. Tens of thousands more have watched the debate videos in the last two days. I deeply appreciate each and every one of you who took time to support the cause of freedom during this debate. The battle over American exceptionalism, sponsored by the Young America's Foundation, represented a much bigger struggle for the future of America. Watch the full crossing of swords right here: During the crowd's favorite part of the debate, I took Ayers to task over his radical past. Here's what Ayers said about his activities in the 60s: "Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon. The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them." I gave $20,000 of my own money over the campaign finance limit, and I got eight months in confinement. What kind of time did Ayers serve for his unrepentant bombing of the Pentagon? You'll have to watch to find out: One of my favorite questions from the audience was from an intelligent young man (the child of two immigrants) who asked how conservatives can lobby for secure borders without being painted as xenophobic.
