Was Dinesh D’Souza Targeted? GOP Senators Ask FBI

Four Republican Senators wrote the FBI on Friday and asked to be provided with details about the campaign finance charges brought against Dinesh D’Souza. Senators Mike Lee (R-Utah), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Jeff Session (R-Alabama) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) questioned whether D’Souza was specifically targeted because of his criticisms of the Obama administration.

The letter quoted Alan Dershowitz’s claim that “[the investigation] smacks of selective prosecution” and added that “to dispel this sort of public perception that Mr. D’Souza may have been targeted because of his outspoken criticisms of the president, it is important for the FBI to be transparent regarding the precise origin of this investigation.”

Reagan on Religious Tolerance

On August 23, 1984, president Ronald Reagan was invited to address an ecumenical prayer breakfast in Dallas, TX. He spoke on America’s history of religious tolerance and the importance of preserving that tradition for our nation’s posterity.

In his speech, he said that “faith and religion play a critical role in the political life of our nation—and always has—and that the church—and by that I mean all churches, all denominations—has had a strong influence on the state. And this has worked to our benefit as a nation.”

Liberty Counsel Fights for Pelletier Family, Whose Teen Daughter Is Being Held by State

Mat Staver, the founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, has appeared before the Suffolk County Juvenile Court to defend Lou Pelletier against the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF).

Pelletier’s daughter, Justina, has been locked in a psychiatric ward for more than a year after being forcibly taken from her parents, and is now confined to a wheelchair due to maltreatment for her mitochondrial disease. After Lou Pelletier spoke out about the abuse at the hands of the state, the DCF attempted to silence him by filing a complaint to hold him in contempt of court.

instaPoll: Do you believe that preserving open space is a permissible use of eminent domain?

Congressman Randy Forbes

While our Constitution permits the taking of property, the Fifth Amendment guarantees that no property shall be taken except for public use and with just compensation.

In 2005, the Supreme Court ruled that eminent domain could be used for economic development, holding that such development qualified as a 'public use.'  In response that year, the House passed the Private Property Rights Protection Act, with my support, to prohibit the federal government from exercising its power of eminent domain for economic development.

This week, Summit County, Colorado is seeking to use the power of eminent domain to seize a 10-acre parcel of land, owned by a couple, in order to preserve open space, and protect wildlife and the habitat.

Question of the week:   Do you believe that preserving open space is a permissible use of eminent domain?

( ) Yes.
( ) No.
( ) I don't know.
( ) Other.

Presidential Moments from History

In honor of President’s Day, three important moments from our presidential history are presented below.

Washington Puts An End to the Newburgh Conspiracy

In March 1783, after the last major battles of the Revolutionary War, whispers of a military uprising threatened the fragile American Republic. Soldiers in the Continental Army, camped at Newburgh, New York, were discontented with the government’s inability to pay them and the lack of funds for pensions.

In response, George Washington gave an emotional address to the army, charging them to “express your utmost horror and detestation of the man, who wishes, under any specious pretences, to overturn the liberties of our country; and who wickedly attempts to open the flood-gates of civil discord, and deluge our rising empire in blood.”

Lincoln Gives His Moving Farewell Address

Abraham Lincoln’s “Farewell Address” was an impromptu speech given in Springfield, Illinois, shortly before leaving for his inauguration as President in Washington, D.C. Thousands had gathered to see him depart, and in response to their presence he gave a brief, unscripted address from the back of his train car.

The speech is known for Lincoln’s moving words about his gratitude and his debt to the people of Springfield, as well as his foresight in saying, “I now leave, not knowing when, or whether ever, I may return, with a task before me greater than that which rested upon Washington. Without the assistance of that Divine Being who ever attended him, I cannot succeed. With that assistance I cannot fail.”

Ronald Reagan Speaks of America’s “Rendezvous With Destiny”

In October 1964, Ronald Reagan delivered a speech on behalf of Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. In it, he spoke of “a time for choosing”, in which a choice must be made between rising up toward freedom or falling down into totalitarianism.

“You and I have a rendezvous with destiny,” he said, famously ending his speech. “We’ll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we'll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.”

instaPoll: Do you believe that English should be the official language of the United States?

Congressman Randy Forbes

Currently, over half of the 50 states have adopted English as their official language. However, it has not been adopted as the official language of the United States as a whole.

Our nation is undeniably unique because of the diversity of its people.  At the same time, there are things that unify our country, like the American flag and our national anthem.

For years, there has been a debate as to whether or not English should also be one of the things that unites our nation, by requiring official functions of the United States to be conducted in English.  This includes all public documents, records, legislation and regulations, as well as hearings, official ceremonies, and public meetings. Official English legislation contains common-sense exceptions permitting the use of languages other than English for such things as public health and safety services, and judicial proceedings.

Question of the week:   Do you believe that English should be the official language of the United States?

( ) Yes.
( ) No.
( ) I don't know.
( ) Other.

WATCH: Ayers Debate and Media Interviews About the Indictment

Dinesh D'Souza Newsletter

February 6, 2014

Dear Friends,

Last week's debate with Bill Ayers reminded me of the differences between the spirit of 1776 that gave us this great country and the spirit of 1968 – a radical vision for our nation that has brought us to the brink of destruction. If you missed the debate, click here to check out the entire video.

TheBlaze pulled some of the best clips from our livestream, so check out their article to watch me debate Ayers on gun control, slavery, gay rights, and libertarianism.

Below are some of my recent interviews about the Ayers debate, the indictment, and more. We have seen such an outpouring of support in the last two weeks from you and from major media outlets. Thank you!

These recent events remind me of how I first "earned Obama's rage," something I shared with The Wrap last year.

I will continue to fight for our shared vision of American exceptionalism, and I'm excited that production on my new movie, America, slated for release on Independence Day, is close to wrapping.

We need to work together to fight back against the liberal machine that is opposed to our basic freedoms and uses a politicized federal government to exact their vengeance on liberty-loving Americans.

Sincerely,
Signature
Dinesh D'Souza
