InstaPoll: Cuts to the military

Congressman Randy Forbes

This week, the Secretaries and Chiefs of our military services appeared before the House Armed Services Committee to testify on the annual national defense budget proposal, addressing whether it adequately meets the needs of each of the services. Congressman Forbes questioned each of the Chiefs on whether they will be able to provide for today's national security and prepare for tomorrow's threats under the current defense budget. The Chiefs testified that budget constraints are jeopardizing both current capabilities and future readiness. Watch the testimony, here.

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter also testified before the Committee in a separate hearing, defending the President's budget proposal. Congressman Forbes questioned the Secretary about the impacts of sequestration to America's national security. Even though Secretary Carter acknowledged that sequestration would be "devastating" for the military and cause a crisis in national defense, he stated his support of the Administration's determination to veto any bill that lifts sequestration from defense, if it does not also lift it from the IRS, EPA, and other federal agencies that are not related to national security. Watch the questioning here, or by clicking the image below.

Over the past six years, the U.S. military has faced a series of significant cuts, resulting in the reality that America now has the smallest Army since before World War II, a Navy among the smallest since World War I, and an Air Force whose top general says it may not be able to control the skies in a future conflict. Congressman Forbes has been a leading voice in the House of Representatives on the importance of investing in tomorrow's military and a strong national defense.

: Are you concerned about the impact of current defense cuts to the U.S. military's ability to address current and future threats?

(  ) Yes.
(  ) No.

Update Peninsula Tea Party information

Dear Robert,

Please review your group information below and update or confirm that it's accurate

My name is Keli Carender, and I'm the National Grassroots Coordinator for Tea Party Patriots. We are reaching out to every group on our website to make sure that we have the information correct for you and your tea party group.

Over time, local tea party groups go through changes, and those changes aren't always communicated to us, so the information we have listed on our website could be out-of-date. We want potential new members to be able to easily find your group, and we want to make sure that your group has access to all of the resources that Tea Party Patriots has to offer. For instance, we hold a weekly webinar with groups from all across the country where activists hear from guest speakers, a weekly legislative update, best practices from other coordinators, and more. It's also where Tea Party Patriots gets input and direction from the grassroots. Coordinators vote on issues, actions, and what stances we should take on legislation.

Below is the latest information used on the teapartypatriots.org website:

Description:Peninsula Tea Party is a coalition of individuals and groups who seek limited government, a strong marketplace and a return to the independent spirit that founded our nation. InstaPoll: Negotiations with Iran

Congressman Randy Forbes

This week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed both Chambers of Congress to warn about the dangers of Iran's nuclear ambitions, contending that the deal currently being negotiated between the U.S.-led coalition and Tehran poses an existential threat to the nation of Israel.

President Obama has declared preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon to be a top national security priority, and is leading diplomats from Iran, U.S., and world powers in an emerging agreement to restrict Iran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting the current international sanctions, including financial, trade, and economic restrictions. The President has stated that Iran would have to commit to halting progress on its most sensitive nuclear activity for at least 10 years, submit to international inspections, and reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium enough to ensure "at least a year" would be required for Iran to generate sufficient fuel for a nuclear weapon.

Prime Minister Netanyahu, and others opposed to the deal, argue that by lifting nuclear restrictions on Iran in as few as 10 years and allowing Iran to continue enriching uranium, the agreement would effectively guarantee that Iran attains nuclear capability, putting both Israel and the larger region at risk. Additionally, opponents of the negotiations contend that Iran, a leading state-sponsor of terrorism and the developer of a robust ballistic missile capability, cannot be trusted to uphold their end of the agreement. Currently, negotiations are facing an end-of-March deadline.

Question of the Week: Do you support the Administration's negotiations with Iran over a nuclear deal?

(  ) Yes.
(  ) No.
(  ) I am unsure.
(  ) Other.
