For Republicans:
· Stick to the $100 billion in cuts for 2011 that you pledged. That's why we elected you.
· Make sure our soldiers are not held hostage by the inaction of the Congress and the White House. In the event that the government shuts down, they deserve to be paid. If not, then their Commander in Chief and all members of Congress should go without pay as well.
· We elected you to stop the out of control spending in Washington. $100 billion dollars for 2011 must be just the start: you must insist on real and serious reform to the entire federal budget going forward.
· Please stand firm. The future of America depends on you and we will support you as long as you are willing to stand for America's future.
For Democrats:
· Cutting spending is not extreme: spending trillions that we do not have is extreme.
· $100 billion from a $4 trillion budget is fiscal responsibility, not radical action.
· We cannot sustain the deficits that President Obama and your leaders have proposed. We must make cuts now, while we can do so in the least painful and most fair and humane ways possible. If we wait; if you "kick the can" down the road again, the cuts will still come, but they will happen in a true crisis and will be far worse for our nation.
· Your leadership is focused on who to blame if the government shuts down. As your constituent, I am asking you to focus on the real issue and work with your Republican colleagues to cut spending.
· Make sure our soldiers are not held hostage by the inaction of the Congress and the White House. In the event that the government shuts down, they deserve to be paid. If not, then their Commander in Chief and all members of Congress should go without pay as well.
