InstaPoll: Authorizing the Use of Military Force against ISIS

This week, after over half a year of conflict with ISIS, the Administration sent Congress its proposal for the Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF), for the purpose of degrading and defeating the brutal terrorist group. Currently, the Administration is operating under a broad AUMF, which dates back to September 2001, and served as a reaction to the 9/11 terror attacks. It authorized the President with all necessary and appropriate force, "against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons." Now, the President is requesting formal authorization from Congress for the use of military force against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.  The authorization would not authorize the conduct of long-term, large-scale ground combat operations.  But it would authorize the conduct of ground combat operations in limited circumstances, such as rescue operations or the use of special operations forces to take military actions against ISIS leadership. It also authorizes the use of U.S. forces in situations such as intelligence collecting, missions to enable strikes against terrorist targets, or the provision of operational planning and assistance to partner forces. Proponents argue that the President's proposal fulfills his constitutional and legal obligations, while striking the proper balance of demonstrating commitment towards destroying ISIS, yet limiting U.S. ground troops' involvement. Those opposing the proposal cite concerns over the content of the request, including the lack of a concrete, comprehensive strategy, the limits it places on the flexibility and options of our military commanders, as well as the potential it creates for another endless conflict with no clearly articulated plan for achieving the stated objectives. $6 Trillion More National Debt? Weekly Update from Dinesh D'Souza Dear Friends, Continuing his bid to be America's worst president, Obama offered a new 10-year budget this week which adds $6 trillion to the national debt. The budget will be dead on arrival, but it is a revealing indication of Obama's warped psyche. It leads me to wonder, is Obama the worst American president or the first anti-American president? Also in the news this week, the response to Loretta Lynch's Senate confirmation hearings continues to shed light on her likeness to Eric Holder. Obama has the right to nominate people he wants, and the Senate has the right to reject them if it wants. Have liberals forgotten that during the Bork hearings they told us that Senate could legitimately reject nominees on ideological grounds? On February 1, I told Newsmax TV why Lynch deserves the big thumbs down (and why I'm relieved that Mitt Romney decided against running again). Does anyone at this stage seriously think America's problems can be solved with another whopping tax increase? The American people resoundingly rejected the Obama agenda in November, so we should all feel free to ignore what Obama said this week. I found myself laughing through the speech, not at Obama, but at his glassy-eyed devotees blindly following this ridiculous Pied Piper. Ironically, the day before the president's speech, we celebrated the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. How I wish we had a Martin Luther King today instead of thugs and scam-artists like Obama—and Sharpton, Jackson, and Holder. I spoke with Megyn Kelly on Monday and explained how we descended from Dr. King to the Sharpton-Holder-Obama crowd of today. Megyn and I disagreed about whether or not Obama's life represents the "African-America experience." Watch below: With the facts now known about what really happened in Ferguson, will this crowd of exploitation-artists apologize for their shameful conduct? The true lesson from Ferguson is NOT police brutality but the left's exploitation of race to cause mayhem and derive political advantage. In more exciting news this week, America was nominated for a 2015 Golden Reel Award in the Featured Documentary category. Other nominees include Citizenfour, Deepsea Challenge 3D, Glen Campbell…I'll Be Me, Jodorowsky's Dune, Under the Electric Sky, and Warsaw Uprising. The Motion Picture Sound Editors 62nd Golden Reel Awards will be held February 15, 2015. The Florida bill to show America to students also kicked off a big debate recently, and the bill has a fair chance to become law. Senate Bill 96 and House Bill 77, filed by Republicans Sen. A Liberal Conundrum

A Liberal Conundrum Weekly Update from Dinesh D'Souza Dear Friends, In the wake of terror in Paris, we find that Europe is now home to both radical secularism and radical Islam, a toxic combination. This clash of cultures presents a real problem for modern progressives. If a Muslim barber refuses on religious grounds to cut the hair of a lesbian, whose side does a liberal take? This problem stems from a double standard. Muslims, even radical Muslims that trample on the rights of women and threaten violence against civilization, are a protected class by Western progressives, whereas even nominal Christians have become the object of progressive disdain. If progressives were to be consistent, they would need to reject Islam as fervently as they reject Christianity, something very few progressives seem to be willing to acknowledge. Bill Maher is a notable exception. In my last appearance on his show, he expressed outrage that liberals are inconsistent in their condemnation of Islam. The irony of the whole situation, though, is that the liberal, while he can, kowtows to the radical Muslim, but the radical Muslim, if he could, would behead the liberal! New articles this week indicate that Holder and Obama's justice department may seek an indictment for General Petraeus. I'll let you decide who is the patriot and who is the scoundrel. Petraeus' real crime was to lead a troop surge in Iraq that worked, frustrating Obama's plans for U.S. withdrawal and defeat. It appears as though Patraeus and the Navy SEAL who shot bin Laden have now joined me on Obama's target list! On a lighter note, I want to take this opportunity to wish my daughter Danielle the very best—she turned 20 yesterday! How quickly they grow older (and how fortunate that we don't)! When Muslims are shooting magazine editors and cartoonists, it takes an especially warped mind to warn against intolerance toward Islam! Islam by itself may not be the problem, but there is something about Islam TODAY that breeds a certain fanaticism and terrorism. I spoke to Steve Malzberg yesterday about the terrorism in France: Earlier this week, TV star Kaley Cuoco Sweeting of The Big Bang Theory came out of the closet—as a conservative!—and was immediately forced to backpedal by Hollywood pooh-bahs. The paradox of liberal tolerance is that it extends to Marxists, transsexuals, and Islamic radicals—but NOT to conservatives or Christians. When did feminist whiners come to be associated with "strong women"? Golda Meier, Indira Gandhi, Jeane Kirkpatrick, Margaret Thatcher—none of them described themselves as "feminists." On a positive note, I reached 150,000 followers on Twitter yesterday, so thank you for being a part of another milestone for me! My hope is that your 2015 is already off to a great start.
