instaPoll: Do you believe that the United States government should hold an American citizen - arrested on American soil - as an enemy combatant in order to gather intelligence to prevent a possible future attack?

Congressman Randy Forbes

Last Friday, after the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody, federal officials exercised what is known as the "public safety exception" to delay reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev his Miranda warnings.  In such cases, officials are permitted to ask questions necessary to secure their own safety or the safety of the public.

Some have argued that this should be taken a step further, and that Tsarnaev should be deemed an enemy combatant (a member of a declared enemy of state or a terror group during a time of war) to determine if he was involved with, or knew of, other terrorist attacks.  As the suspect is a naturalized citizen, others argued that it would be unconstitutional to treat him as an enemy combatant.

This week, the White House indicated that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will neither be classified as an enemy combatant nor tried before a military commission.  Instead, he was formally charged with using a weapon of mass destruction to cause the "malicious destruction of property resulting in death" and will be tried in criminal court.   Under this charge, Tsarnaev could face the death penalty.

Question of the week:   Do you believe that the United States government should hold an American citizen - arrested on American soil - as an enemy combatant in order to gather intelligence to prevent a possible future attack?

(  ) Yes.
(  ) No.
(  ) I don't know.
(  ) Other.

Survey results and Tuesday protest details

Local Coordinators, thank you for the many responses we received on such short notice. Your feedback is crucial to guiding Tea Party Patriots!

The results of the first survey are in and the local coordinators have chosen to hold protests this Tuesday, April 16th. 71% said we must make our voices heard and 67% of coordinators chose Tuesday as their preferred day. 96% of coordinators approved statements on immigration law and 73% approved signing a statement concerning the Benghazi investigation.

Now the heavy lifting begins.
Promotion is essential to make this a success. With such short notice, publicity is the single biggest task to undertake. Remember, these are not big production-style events with speakers and stages. They are street protests and sign-waving events centered around the failure of Congress to uphold their oaths of office to support and defend the Constitution. Just like with Obamacare, they are voting on bills before reading them, writing 1500-page bills behind closed doors, and it's only after they've passed the bills that we get to find out what is in them. And once we find out, we see they've trampled on our rights yet again.

Remember - we are trying to attack the process as much as possible with only vague references overall to an attack on our constitution so that we aren't drawn into the policy debate on immigration or gun control. The gun stuff is easier because it's a little more cut and dried, "attacking the 2nd amendment" etc. But we have to be very careful about immigration.

If you have any ideas for slogans or signs, please mention them HERE. We will keep you updated with additional as this list grows.

If your group has plans for Tax Day, please do not change them. These protests are NOT meant to compete with Tax Day; they have different talking points. We do not want to step on your toes. These protests are meant to be at local offices of Senators,

Here is what you as a local coordinator needs to do:
  • Attend
  • Print petition, signup sheets, letters for people to take inside to Senate staff
  • Send press release to local media
  • Reach out to other LCs in state to help drive up attendance
  • Email your lists; ask for volunteers make calls to get more people to attend
  • Reach out to local coalitions to ask if they want to coalition partner: NRA, Sons of Liberty Riders, AFP, Freedom Works, Campaign for Liberty, etc.

A toolkit will be available to local coordinators on these protests, we will send them as soon as they are complete.

Thank you again for your hard work!

instaPoll: What should be the response from the United States to the recent actions taken by North Korea?

Congressman Randy Forbes

North Korea has been among the most troublesome and persistent problems in U.S. foreign policy since the Cold War.  The United States has never had formal diplomatic relations with North Korea, and negotiations over its nuclear weapons program have been at the forefront of the national security agendas of the past three administrations.

U.S. interests in North Korea involve critical security, political, and human rights concerns. American troops occupying U.S. military bases in the Pacific are stationed within known striking distance of North Korean missiles. A conflict on the Korean peninsula or the collapse of the government would have severe implications for both the regional and global economy. Negotiations and diplomacy surrounding North Korea's nuclear weapons program necessarily dictate U.S. relations with all the major powers in the region.

The United States and its allies in the east are now faced with an isolated, authoritarian regime, currently under pressure from transferring power following the death of Kim Jong-il in December 2011. Multilateral Six-Party negotiations (made up of China, Japan, Russia, North Korea, South Korea, and the United States) have previously reached some key agreements on aid to North Korea in exchange for denuclearization; however, problems with implementation have persisted and talks have been suspended since 2008.

After launching a long-range rocket in December of 2012, North Korea conducted a nuclear test in February 2013, and increased its rhetoric against South Korea and the United States to include the threat of pre-emptive nuclear strikes.

Leadership in North Korea under Kim Jong-un is unpredictable because so little is known about him.  The United States now faces the challenge of navigating a course toward a peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue with a potentially rogue actor.

Question of the week:   What should be the response from the United States to the recent actions taken by North Korea?

(  )   Push North Korea's best ally and economic lifeline, China, to pressure North Korea to suspend its dangerous and reckless behavior
(  )   Re-engage North Korea diplomatically and encourage them to return to the Six-Party Talks
(  )   Work with South Korea and other regional allies to build a strong deterrent to contain North Korea
(  )   Strengthen our missile defenses to prevent North Korea from being able to threaten our homeland
(  )   Ignore North Korean provocations and assume that they are not a threat to the U.S. and its allies
(  )   Actively encourage a regime change in North Korea, with the goal of reunifying the Peninsula under a Democratic government.
(  )   Other.

Since Tea Party Patriots is committed to a grassroots bottom-up approach for activities and involvement and since we have recently launched our new Political Action Committee (Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund), we are determining how best to meet the grassroots needs and balance the grassroots approach with our new PAC.  To that end, during this webinar, we will discuss how TPP Citizens Fund could be involved in the upcoming Virginia Elections, how much involvement the local coordinators in Virginia want from Tea Party Patriots, and what, if any, needs of VA Local Coordinators are not being met that TPP may be able to fill.

The call will likely last 1 hour. Jenny Beth will kick it off and give a 10 - 15 minute overview of what tools TPP currently has available or will have available shortly. Then open it to questions. comments, feedback. We will close with a couple of polling questions to help TPP know what the VA Local Coordinators and groups want TPP to do.

instaPoll: Do you believe that the United States should continue to utilize foreign assistance as a tool to support our foreign policy?

Congressman Randy Forbes

With a record $16 trillion in debt and a federal government consistently spending a trillion dollars a year more than it has taken in, Congress must address the fundamental issue at hand: a serious overspending problem in Washington. One area of federal spending that has been the focus of recent debate is foreign aid.

For decades, the United States has used foreign assistance to provide humanitarian aid, promote economic development, and foster good governance, often in places where American security interests are at stake.

Despite the cost, some believe that the federal government should continue to provide this funding as an investment to advance the nation's security, prosperity, and global leadership.  Others argue that the United States should end foreign aid and, instead, spend that money on programs for American citizens.

There are four key questions that I believe we must ask in order to assess foreign aid accurately and to determine if it is an appropriate investment of American tax dollars. Does foreign aid to a given region offer the American people return on investment in terms of their own security? Does such aid promote the free flow of goods and materials critical to the success of American trade? Does it protect supply routes and safety for American troops stationed abroad? Does it seriously mitigate the potential impact of disease pandemics?

Question of the week:  Do you believe that the United States should continue to utilize foreign assistance as a tool to support our foreign policy?

( ) Yes.
( ) No.
( ) I don't know.
( ) Other.

NEW DINESH D'SOUZA FILM AMERICA
to hit theaters in the Summer of 2014 - Teaser at CPAC

Each year about 10,000 conservatives and libertarians converge on Washington, DC for CPAC. The event featured senators Rand Paul, Marco Rubio & Ted Cruz along with National Prayer Breakfast keynote Dr. Ben Carson. The event also featured 2016 creator Dinesh D'Souza and Producer Gerald Molen announcing their new film AMERICA. Click above to watch the teaser and Dinesh's speech at CPAC.

Hollywood Reporter on AMERICA film

Gerald Molen, the Oscar-winning producer of "Schindler's List," "Jurassic Park" and other blockbusters, is re-teaming with conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza for a movie simply called "America."

The filmmakers behind 2016: Obama’s America are working on a follow-up to what has become the second-biggest political documentary in the history of the domestic box office, The Hollywood Reporterhas learned exclusively.

Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza, who starred in, co-wrote and co-directed 2016, will return as the writer and star of a film simply titled America to be directed by John Sullivan, who wrote and directed 2016 with D’Souza. Gerald Molen, who won a best picture Oscar for producing Schindler’s List with Steven Spielberg in 1993, will executive produce America, as he did for 2016.

2016 Co-Director John Sullivan addresses CPAC: "Getting Hollywood Right"

America is more than ready for patriotic themes to enliven good, old fashioned storytelling. Conservatives must not only pick up cameras and start telling solid stories, but those holding the financial cards must do their part, too.

"Donors ... don’t give another dollar until you give one back on entertainment," Sullivan said.

HATING BREITBART FILM PANEL LIGHTS UP CPAC as sparks fly

CPAC attendees simply couldn't get enough of late Internet mogul Andrew Breitbart's inspiration and legacy.

Shortly after conservatives packed into Breitbart News' Uninvited panel, which featured voices too often not heard around CPAC, they squeezed into a screening hall to watch Hating Breitbart.

The documentary, which earned Blog Bash's Best Movie honors earlier in the convention, drew cheers as well as a standing room only crowd on CPAC's final day. A guard watching the screening door had to keep turning curious attendees away who wanted to see what the fuss was all about.
