Remove IRS Commissioner

Congressman Randy Forbes

This week, Members of House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform called on the Obama Administration to remove Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner John Koskinen, saying he has misled Congress and prevented congressional investigators from receiving the information that lawmakers have requested.

Allegations that Koskinen obstructed congressional probes come in the midst of an investigation into the IRS scandal, where government officials targeted politically active conservative groups for increased scrutiny on applications for tax-exempt status from April 2010 to April 2012. The investigation is ongoing, and has been complicated by Lois Lerner's refusal to testify (Lerner ran the IRS's exempt-organizations unit), and the IRS' failure to preserve and produce up to 24,000 e-mails relevant to the investigation.

At a news conference held in Washington on Monday, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said that, should the Administration refuse to remove Commissioner Koskinen, all constitutional options remain on the table, including holding the Commissioner in contempt of Congress, as well as possibly impeachment.

Question of the Week: Do you believe John Koskinen should be removed as Commissioner of the IRS?

(  ) Yes.
