We have our weekly Nationwide Leadership Council Call Mondays at 9:00 pm eastern. Use the following link to participate:
https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/271141385

The password to get into the webinar can be found in the "Login Information" section above.

Not sure if you are a member of the Nationwide Leadership Council?
Are you a local coordinator of a local tea party or 912 groups?  Then you are a member of the Nationwide Leadership Council.

Why do we have these calls each week?
Tea Party Patriots is a grassroots, bottom-up organization. Our best ideas come from thelocal coordinators and grassroots supporters.  Before deciding on a national course of action unless it is extremely time sensitive information, Tea Party Patriots National Coordinators run ideas by the Local Coordinators and Nationwide Leadership Council for refinement and approval.

What happens on the call?
Generally, in the first 30 minutes the National Coordinators give an update from the national scene, announcements are made, proposed projects are thrown out, and legislative updates are given.  We do our very best to get the announcements out of the way in the very beginning.  Next, we discuss any upcoming projects or ideas.  This is an open discussion and anyone can participate in it and all are encouraged to do so.  Then we open the call for general questions.  You can ask any question here that you need answered.  We also do polls to get your feedback during the call and so you can see what others are thinking as well.

How do I participate?  We use gotowebinar for these calls.  You can listen from your phone or from the speakers on your computer.
For Go to Webinar:
You need to register for the call by filling out this form: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/271141385

  • After filling out the form, you will receive an email with a link to join the call.
  • Click that link and GotoWebinar will install software on your computer to allow you to join the call.
  • After the software is on your computer, you can do one of 2 things to hear and talk on the call:
    1. You can listen and participate on the call via your computer. You will need speakers and a microphone or a headset that has earphone(s) and a microphone. If you don't have a microphone you can listen on your computer, but you will not be able to participate on the call.
    2. *Recommended for better sound quality: You can click a button that says listen on the phone. When you click that you will receive a phone number, the access code for the call, and a pin. That pin is crucial. Without that pin, you will not be able to unmute yourself on the call.
  • If you can hear the call but cannot figure out how to unmute or how to ask questions using the software, you can email kevin@teapartypatriots.org or jennybeth@teapartypatriots.org.

One-Term Proposition

Volume 38 -- November 4, 2011

Welcome to this week's Victory Insider, your weekly round-up of news, views, and information for staying up to speed on recent developments in Washington, the unfolding 2011-2012 election cycle, and GOP efforts to stop the Obama Agenda and return commonsense and responsibility to American government.

2012 ELECTION COUNTDOWN:
Iowa Caucuses:  61 Days
Election Day 2012:  369 Days
In this week's installment:

One-Term Proposition
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus makes clear that no matter how his Administration and campaign spins it, the 2012 election is a referendum on President Obama's failed leadership.  (Reince Priebus, "Hope and Change for the Worse," Politico, 11/1/11)

Rocky Mountain Low
"Three years into his first term, 14 million people are still out of work. And what's his solution? More of the same failed policies. The problem isn't just that his policies have not worked; they've made things worse.  The reality is that Colorado cannot afford another four years of Barack Obama.  (Reince Priebus, "Colorado Can't Wait for Obama to Fix the Economy," Denver Post, 10/27/2011)

Deportation Song and Dance
House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith explains that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano's claim of deporting a record number of illegal aliens doesn't hold water.  (Lamar Smith, "Obama Deportation Numbers a 'Trick,'" Politico, 10/25/2011)

Nanny State
"An able-bodied man paid by the government of the United States to lie in a giant crib wetting his diaper week in week out is almost too poignant an emblem of the republic at twilight."  (Mark Steyn, "Adult Babies: There's Almost Nothing You Can't Get Government to Pay For," National Review, 10/29/2011)

What Else is New?
"The watchdog organization PolitiFact.com, which evaluates the veracity of politicians' statements, has tracked 506 specific promises Mr. Obama made during his victorious presidential campaign three years ago and concluded that he has fulfilled 151, or 30 percent."  (Dave Boyer, "Watchdog: Obama Stretches Truth on Accomplishments," Washington Times, 10/27/2011)

Yeah, Sure, Whatever
Barack Obama proves just as much a hypocrite on taking lobbyists' money as he does on not hiring them...  (Chris Stirewalt, "With Lobbyist Donors, Obama Lets Himself Off on a Technicality," Fox News, 10/28/2011)

Big Labor Shakedown
"And it underscores the fact that the teachers unions are using OWS to press for higher taxes in order to push more money in the system to subsidize their members' benefits.
It has nothing to do with fairness or quality education or 'the children.'  They want Albany to keep spending taxpayer money on their members as lavishly as they spend dues revenue on themselves."  (Editorial, "Piggies at the Trough," New York Post, 10/31/2011)

What's Wrong in Kansas?
"If a private health insurer had engaged in the kind of criminal obstruction that Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius has been tied to in her home state of Kansas, it would be a federal case. Instead, it's a non-story in the Washington press."  (Michelle Malkin, "Shredding Kathleen Sebelius: Where There's Obstructionist Smoke, There's Corruption Fire," National Review, 10/28/2011)

"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"
Barack Obama hangs out with his limousine liberal Hollywood friends while they fill his campaign war chest.  (Jim Kuhnhenn, "Obama Mingles With the Stars as He Raises Cash," Yahoo News/Associated Press, 10/25/2011)

He Walked Right Into That
When Obama's team was looking for a witty slogan, they might've thought twice before picking "We Can't Wait," because we can't wait either!  (Sarah Peters, "Republicans Co-opt Obama Twitter Hashtag to Attack Economic Record," The Hill, 10/24/2011)

Take Action: Balanced Budget Amendment - Day Two

You are receiving this email on behalf of Tea Party Patriots. 100% Grassroots, 100% of the Time.
Is this email not displaying correctly?
View it in your browser.

Yesterday we asked you to call Representative Paul Ryan to say thank you for standing firm and supporting the strong Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA).1

Take Action Now!

We asked you to call Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Rep. Kevin McCarthy to tell them to bring the strong BBA to the floor because we heard they were getting squishy and might bring the weak BBA up for a vote instead.

***Due to the debt ceiling deal, Congress is now required by law to bring a BBA to the floor for a vote. The “weak” version will result in tax increases. The “strong” version offers much stronger protection against tax increases. Our Local Coordinators voted 70%-30% to push for the strong BBA over the weak BBA – but NOT as a TPP endorsement of a BBA in general. Rather, this is an attempt to push House leadership to make a more principled decision since they are bringing a BBA to the floor one way or another.***

Today we are asking you to melt the phone lines in response to a report that tax increases are very much on the table for the Super Committee, which would be the final blow to this flailing and fragile economy.2, 3

“With current levels of taxation already limiting economic growth, we believe that marginal rates must be maintained or lowered and that repeal of any tax credit or deduction be offset with an equal or greater tax cut.” --- RSC letter

ACTION
Call your own Representative4 and ask them to make a commitment to you that they will advocate against and vote NO on any plan that increases taxes. We need less spending and increased economic growth, not more taxes.

NOTE: If you haven’t yet made the calls listed in the action alert from yesterday, please take a look and do so today if you have time.

instaPoll: Do you support legislation to stop U.S. taxpayer-funded bailouts of European nations?

Congressman Randy Forbes

Send me an email | Forward to a Friend

Today, President Obama is joining other world leaders in Cannes, France to participate in the G-20 Summit, a meeting that is expected to be dominated by concerns over rescuing the nation of Greece from default.  Other European nations and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have been discussing "bailout" scenarios for the Greek government.  The United States is the leading funder of the IMF and according to the Wall Street Journal, "The U.S. role [in the bailout] comes from its obligations to the IMF, which is lending an additional $39 billion as part of the Greek package. The U.S. pays roughly in proportion to its stake in the IMF, as do other countries, if the IMF's board votes to approve the package on Sunday, as expected."  I believe this is wrong. U.S. taxpayers should not be responsible for the fiscal rescue of foreign governments, especially when our own federal government faces a crushing debt and has yet to seriously address our own economic difficulties. I have cosponsored a bill to stop U.S. participation in these costly bailouts of Greece and other European nations. H.R. 2313 would rescind the $108 billion authorization, return any unobligated money to the U.S. General Fund, and specify that the money be used for deficit reduction. You can read the text of the bill here.

Question of the Week: Do you support legislation to stop U.S. taxpayer-funded bailouts of European nations?

(  ) Yes
(  ) No
(  ) Other (share your thoughts on my blog)
(  ) I am unsure.

Take the poll here.

Help Build a Nationwide Ground Operation

Dear Virginia,

You should have received an important 2012 strategy memo from RNC Political Director Rick Wiley on Tuesday along with a new campaign video.  I hope you've had a chance to read the memo, watch the video and share them both with your friends and family.

Virginia, with just a year left until the critical 2012 presidential elections, the RNC is gearing up for what is certain to be one of the costliest, hardest fought campaigns in our nation's history.

As Rick's memo pointed out, momentum is growing to replace Barack Obama's inept, arrogant and failed leadership with a true conservative who will defend the Constitution, rein in government spending and implement pro-growth, job creation policies.

While the path to winning the White House is getting clearer, the steps our Party must take to defeat a President who is perpetually campaigning and raising hundreds of millions of dollars from his leftist allies are just as daunting.

When the President is not trampling on the Constitution, spending our government into financial ruin and spreading the wealth to his leftist special interest allies through crony capitalism, he is touring the country hitting up his well-heeled cadre of liberal benefactors who will spend and do whatever it takes to buy Barack Obama another four years in the White House.

As Chairman of the RNC, it's my job to counter Obama's billion dollar war chest and his legion of left-wing activists by building a nationwide grassroots ground operation and ensuring our presidential nominee has the necessary funds to compete with the Fundraiser-in-Chief -- and we must do it now!

Please make an immediate campaign contribution of $10, $15 or $20 to support the RNC's efforts to build the vital ground operation needed to elect a Republican president and GOP candidates up and down the ticket in 2012.  As the only national Party committee allowed by law to provide direct financial support to our presidential nominee, your donation is absolutely vital to Republican victory in 2012.

As Rick's memo also pointed out, President Obama won't stop campaigning from now until Election Day -- so our Party must work every day to lay the foundation to defeat him 12 months from now.  Thank you in advance for your generous support today.

Sincerely,

Reince Priebus
Chairman, Republican National Committee

P.S.  Virginia , America cannot afford another four years of President Obama's failed leadership.  To get our economy turned around and our nation pointed in the right direction again, we must elect a Republican president just a year from now who will faithfully adhere to the Constitution and make the tough decisions necessary to cut the cost, size and scope of government.  Please make an urgent campaign contribution of $10, $15 or $20 to the RNC to help lay the foundation for Republican victories from the courthouse to the White House.  And to help the RNC continue to build our nationwide grassroots ground operation, please also join our GOP Mobile Army today by texting UNITE to 91919.  Message and data rates may apply.  Thank you.

One Year to Go

Memorandum
To: Interested Parties
From: Rick Wiley, RNC Political Director
Date: November 1, 2011
RE: One Year to Go

With one year to go, the headwinds President Obama faces in his fight to get re-elected are approaching gale-force.

A Gallup study released this week shows Republican Party affiliation is on the rise. Enthusiasm among Republicans remains high while Democrat enthusiasm remains far lower than what it was in 2008 (a CNN study showed that 79% of Democrats were "very enthusiastic" in 2008 versus only 43% today). By most accounts Obama's donors are much more tepid in their support than they were in 2008. Satisfaction with his administration's policies continues to fall across the ideological spectrum. The country remains in a sour mood and even more pessimistic than when Obama took office (the current RealClearPolitics average shows 75% believing the country is on the wrong track, and a Time Magazine survey in September showed 81%). And according to Gallup, Obama's 43% national approval rating is, at this point in the third year of a first term, lower than any President in the last 60 years except Jimmy Carter, not good company to keep.

Obama's strategy -- when not issuing Executive Orders -- appears to be to hit the road again, with trips to friendly places like Hollywood to fill his war chest and bus-rides through less-friendly battleground states to pander for votes. These less-friendly states are of course where Obama's fate will be decided. To our advantage, since 2008 the GOP has picked up governor's mansions in 9 "Obama states" representing 131 electoral votes. Adding this increase in organizational strength to the states won by John McCain means the Republican nominee will have an expanded path to election. With almost no chance of extending the battleground map into states McCain carried, Obama faces an uphill battle to defend the 'red' and 'purple' states he carried in 2008. To make matters more difficult, the President is weak in a slew of reliably 'blue' states where he will have to spend considerable resources to keep them in his column.

To his campaign's credit, their choice of destinations for the President shows they know just how difficult their Electoral College path will be. His recent trip through Virginia and North Carolina is a perfect example. These reliably 'red' states, which hadn't voted Democratic in a Presidential election since 1964 and 1976 respectively, are loaded with voters who have buyer's remorse. Polling data in each state shows Obama below water. Virginia snapped quickly back to the GOP column in 2009, and Obama's 2008 margin in North Carolina has already been eclipsed by the number of people who have lost their job since then. Indiana -- another reliably red state with a narrow 2008 margin -- has been all but written off by Obama's team. If Obama loses these states and remains unable to widen the map, the GOP nominee will be only 51 Electoral Votes away from the White House.

Forty-seven of the remaining Electoral Votes necessary for the GOP nominee could come from the perennial bellwethers of Ohio and Florida alone. Ohio has voted with the national winner in each of the last ten Presidential elections, Florida has done so in nine of the last ten. With a year to go in these battlegrounds, Obama's re-elect numbers in these states are 44% and 41% respectively, and majorities of voters in each state disapprove of the job he's done. If these states were to fall, then there are numerous possibilities for the remaining four Electoral Votes needed by the GOP nominee to win.

States like Nevada - where unemployment and foreclosure rates have skyrocketed - or Iowa, Colorado, or New Mexico -- where George W. Bush was victorious in 2004 -- could each push a Republican nominee across the finish line. Furthermore, if otherwise-reliable blue prizes like Michigan or Pennsylvania, where polling shows even lower job approval numbers than Florida and Ohio, were to switch to the GOP column, then the number of bank-shots Obama will need through the Electoral College will be nearly impossible to make. Other, smaller 'blue' states like Wisconsin, New Hampshire, and Washington aren't exactly "gimmes" either.

One year is an eternity in politics. Much can happen and much will change between now and Election Day. But with one year to go, the President's climb to be re-elected is getting steeper by the day.
